James’s Story

Site created on July 12, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Jim had a heart attack at the age of 34 and since then has faced many medical issues.  This eventually evolved into Jim getting care at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN.

We have been coming to the Mayo since 2010. He is listed for a heart transplant but not active on the list.  Before now Jim was too well to be actively listed.

His health has been declining most notably over the last few months. Mayo recommended an LVAD as a bridge to transplant.  The LVAD would make him feel better while waiting to be actively listed and give him a better quality of life.

Jim had the LVAD surgery July 1st at St. Mary’s hospital in Rochester MN. Mayos hospital.  He has suffered some complications. His LVAD is working great though. He will have a long road to recovery.

He is currently intubated and sedated and will have his 4th surgery tomorrow where he will have a tracheostomy to make it easier to put him on and off the ventilator.

It was getting so hard to keep everyone updated I thought I would use this app instead.

Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes.   Jim will have to work hard to get his motor skills back.  We celebrate all the small things.
