Journal entry by Joan Davis

Sorry I’ve been MIA - the last several days have been busy! I had to go through about 12 hours of post-transplant training and pharmacy classes to prepare for James to come home… and HE’S HOME!! WooHoo! 🎉

There are 4x per day readings I have to do, an insulin shot every morning, lots of medications and managing his pain still. Having your sternum split in two, it’s amazing he’s managing the pain so well. He is walking well, doing a lot of things on his own. His appetite is back (because he’s getting my good home cooking!) LOL!! He has some pain in his arm where his main ports were which was also the side the pump had been so there was a lot of trauma on that side. It will get better over time. His main pain is the chest and the staples - they’re tight, very tender to the touch and uncomfortable as they heal.

Overall he’s doing amazing… I’m adjusting to the new normal but SO blessed to have him home! I gave all the many doctors and nurses who cared for him a jar filled with goodies, self-care items and gift cards as a thank you for taking such amazing care of our guy!!

We are thankful to God for his mercy and for those he destined to be healers and givers of care here on earth. I’m in awe of how God and science are perfect partners with us in this journey. Now onward… remembering it’s a marathon!

Love and peace to you all! ❤️
