Journal

While Lynette has been keeping everyone informed here on CaringBridge, I have remained silent, until today.  A few days ago, I told Lynette that I was ready to make a posting.  She heartily supported that idea.  First of all, let me say that I have read every post and comment.  Much of it I had to play catch up on as I was completely physically “off line”.
I must say that I am completely aware of the fact that there were times during January and February that I almost lost the opportunity to write these words. I recognize that but for the Grace of God I would not be alive today. I did not witness my own struggle, but Lynette has taken me through every detail of the battle to stay alive. I stand amazed at the gift of new life that I have been given!
I am grateful for Lynette.  She was beside me all the way, talking to me, loving on me, (even preaching to me), advocating for me, and watching over my care in every way.  As Dr. Jweied said in a recent phone conversation, I “came up aces in the wife department”.  He is so right! I have also experienced the tenderness and care of my Family for not only me but Lynette as well.
Although I only know a few of the names, I am forever grateful for the doctors and medical staff at Advocate Bromenn and Advocate Christ who diligently cared for me and brought me out of harm’s way.  When I finally became cognizant of my surroundings, I got to know my caregivers.  I have been around hospitals for over 40 years, and I must say that I have never seen such caring, kind, and compassionate healthcare workers as I experienced at Christ.  Everyone, doctors, nurses, technicians, rehab staff, and other hospital staff with whom I came into contact all worked together to bring me to wholeness.  For that I am ever thankful.
I cannot overstate the mighty role that each of you played.  While I lay unconscious, your voices, prayers, and thoughts were laid at the Throne of the Great Physician. There were also countless others who interceded for me as you shared my struggle with them.  I could never have imagined the full extent of your love and care. I cannot but feel a little bit like George Bailey in the closing scenes of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
I recall as I left the Conference Office before my heart cath, our Bishop, Frank Beard, told me that he would be praying for me.  I told him that I would be fine and that he should pray for people who really needed it.  Okay, take note Lynette-I was wrong! Most of you who know me well know how hard it is for me to admit that!!!
I have been blessed with a “wonderful life” which has now been given an extension.  I have seen kindness, love, compassion, caring, and gentleness like I have never before known.  Thank you each and every one for how your love has saved my life.  Jim Barnett
