Yesterday was a good day for Jakob, he had friends over and a couple cousins visited as well. He played video games and recorded some songs. For those of you that don’t know, he writes and records music. He has a Sound Cloud page if anyone is interested in his music. His talent is always impressing us. Jakob was entertained throughout the day and evening while still managing his pain.
The tube even seemed easier to empty and we were getting less fluid out.
Today was a busy day and went better than we had planned. Jakob had 2 appointments in Mankato, one for ENT and one at Oncology.
Jakob woke up this morning and we emptied the tube for the last time. Driving to the Mayo Clinic in Mankato was a little nerve racking due to his anticipated tube removal. He took pain medication prior to the appointment, knowing this was going to be painful. As we went through the maze of the clinic and into the basement we found the ENT department. The doctor had come into the room and talked about the procedure. Jakob appeared to be on edge. She had him lay back as she cut the tube out. His face said it all as she pulled the entire tube out. Ouch!! He said that the tube was the worst part.
After the tube removal we had about 3 hours before the other appointment. We got something to eat and went home. He was so excited and taking selfies without the tube. The happiest he has been in a while.
We did get our great news prior to getting the tube out. However, we wanted to wait until we heard it from the oncologist before we told everyone. At the oncology appointment today we were given the best news ever! Jakob is cancer free. He had 63 lymph nodes removed from his neck and they all tested (already) negative. 😃❤️
We couldn’t believe it! We don’t need to worry about him going through treatments or more surgeries. The future plans are for him to be watched carefully. He needs to go back every 3 months for scans and oncology visits.
We are so thankful for everyone’s ongoing support, love and compassion. Without friends and family, we couldn’t have gotten through it. A big thank you!! 😃😇
