Jake’s Story

Site created on July 26, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As most already know, Jake had a kidney transplant when he was 10 years old due to a rare genetic condition called Juvenile Nephronophthisis. Jake has had his transplanted kidney for almost 18 years, but unfortunately, he is now in End Stage Renal Failure, causing his kidneys not to work well enough to keep him alive. Jake’s treatment options are limited to dialysis or another kidney transplant. Jake just started dialysis treatments in March. These treatments are three times a week for four hours at a time. While dialysis helps do the job of his kidneys to keep him alive, a transplant offers more freedom and the ability to live a longer, healthier, more normal life.

10 days ago our lives were flipped upside down, but I am so happy to report that Jake was discharged from Regions this afternoon and we are enjoying being back home. Jake will be off of work for the next several weeks while his brain and body continue to heal. We continue to pray that we are able to find a match for a new kidney for Jake, but for now we are so grateful to be back home.

We can’t begin to thank everyone who has kept us in their thoughts and prayers over the last 10 days. Without all of you, we would not have made it through these difficult times.

With Love,
Jake and Ashley
