Jahmes Tony’s Story

Site created on June 30, 2023

Welcome to Jahmes Tony Finlayson's CaringBridge page. ATTENTION: PLEASE WAIT TO DONATE MONETARILY UNTIL THE TIME ARISES TO SET UP A GOFUND ME. ANY DONATIONS MADE IN CARINGBRIDGE SUPPORT THE PLATFORM BUT NOT JAHMES.

We have created this platform to keep family and friends updated on Jahmes/Tony's journey of healing.  We will do our best, as non-medical professionals, to describe what has happened since his arrival at the hospital.

According to a police report, in the pre-dawn on Tuesday morning, June 27, Jahmes became yet another gunshot victim - he was hit three times. The bullets entered his left arm from the side, went through his arm and into and through his torso, and exited his body.  We know from the police report where this happened, but we don't know what happened.

We do know, however, what has happened since arriving at the hospital.  He showed up at St. Mary's Hospital, and was immediately transported to Froedtert, where he underwent his first surgery; his internal wounds were cleaned and repaired.  He had significant damage to his kidney, liver and spleen. On Tuesday night, Jahmes began to fail and he was taken back to surgery, where once again, the medical team attempted to clean and repair the damage.  After this surgery, his heart was struggled to pump necessary blood through his body and he needed a tremendous amount of assistance from a respirator and medicine. Over the next 24 hours, however, with the help of a drum circle outside his window and the prayers and love of his family and community, Jahmes began to rally. By Friday morning, Jahmes was slightly responsive to voices and his heart was pumping more and more strongly.  Jahmes is still in critical condition at Froedtert Hospital.  He is showing us small signs of his healing, but we know it will be a very long road.  He is also showing a bit of awareness of voices around him (by opening his eyes in response to a voice). We are guardedly hopeful - he is a fighter with a strong heart, and a community behind him.

Jahmes/Tony is a gifted musician and healer who routinely stops and gets involved, when someone needs help or healing.  He is a peaceful and loving man.  His heart is huge, through it is struggling to keep up with the havoc the bullet wreaked on his body. He has helped and healed hundred of people,  and it is our turn to help and to heal him.

Sadly, visiting is not a possibility right now.  The hospital policy is very restrictive while he remains in the ICU; there is a limit of four individuals who can visit him during this time.  Thus, we want to use this CaringBridge site as a space to share updates, express our love and encouragement, and offer practical support to Jahmes.

Jahmes' family has had challenges as well. His father, Dr. William Finlayson, is in the hospital recovering from recent illness. Last night, his dear Aunt Claudia, who was 103 years old, passed on. His brother, Reggie has a huge load to carry right now, so we need to be mindful of giving our support to the family as well.

Please join us in sending healing thoughts, prayers, love and light to Jahmes and his family. Your support, whether it's through messages of encouragement, sharing memories, or offering practical assistance, will mean the world to him and his family.

We will post regular updates on Jahmes' progress, including any medical procedures, milestones, and opportunities to lend a helping hand. Let's show the unity in our community and provide the love, strength, and support that the Finlayson family needs during this challenging time.

Thank you for visiting this page and for your unwavering support. Together, we can make a difference in Jahmes' journey to recovery. Please keep checking back for updates and share this page with anyone who may want to follow along or offer their support. We may also be starting a Go Fund Me page, to raise money to help Jahmes - stay tuned.
