Jagger’s Story

Site created on January 7, 2019

Hi, my name is Jagger. I am an 11 year old triplet. I love my keys, my blowing in the winds, and my family. I was born at 27 weeks and 1 day. I spent the first 3 1/2 months of my life in the NICU. I had some difficulties in the NICU with one of my biggest problems being a grade iv intraventricular hemorrhage. What this means is I had some bleeding in one of the ventricles of my brain which lead to some damage. Due to this damage my brain cannot absorb my spinal fluid and I have hydrocephalus. As a result of this I have a VP shunt. This is a device that was placed in one of the ventricles in my brain and then a tube runs down to my abdomen to put the spinal fluid in an area where it can be absorbed by my body. I have been in and out of the hospital for the majority of my life dealing with shunt complications and issues. I will have a shunt for the rest of my life. With my shunt comes continued failures and complications that I will also have to deal with the rest of my life.

Journal entry by Jeff Thompson

The CT scan today showed minor positive changes. However, Dr. Swift told us we are treating the patient and not trying to improve the overall results of a CT scan.

Basically if Jagger is making strides in the right direction he said he is good with things.

Overall things went very well today.
