Journal entry by Jade Wolf

It’s been a crazy week, filled with plenty of ups and downs.

We started off the week looking good, we still had the breathing tube but she was stable enough they planned on getting it out Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tuesday came and they decided to wait more day, her SPO2’s just weren’t where they needed to be.

Wednesday came and she still wasn’t ready, she’d be good in the morning and then destated in the evening. They thought she just needed more time. She wanted things her way or the high way.

Thursday and Friday turned into guessing games, they just couldn’t get her SPO2’s where they needed to be and they weren’t sure why. In the craziness of all this she had a midline iv go bad and now had a clot in her arm.

Saturday they decided they needed to everything the could for her and by 7pm she was on everything possible to help her... so we left knowing that they had done all they could do and we couldn’t do anything more. By 8pm we had just gotten home and we got a call from our nurse Kristen telling us that they needed to do an emergency heart cath to see if they could see anything better from the inside. And if something was wrong to hopefully fix it.

It was terrifying to send her back into the OR. It was terrifying wanting them to find something so they could help her and yet hoping they don’t find something. In the end they didn’t find anything wrong with the heart besides a colt forming in her left ventricle but that wasn’t hindering her heart in anyway. Dr.Hammil did a beautiful job on her heart.

Instead while they were in there little wolf got agitated with them and in turn her blood pressure went up, and with it so did everything else. Her SPO2’s was right where they wanted them. Her heart rate was good and her other organs were doing well. So they brought her back and did what they had to do to keep her blood pressure up. In hopes this would help her get back on track.

Sunday morning she was doing better than she had been the last two days and they were very hopeful that this was the path they need to take. But unfortunately this wouldn’t be the case. At 9pm she was destating again and since she was already on everything they could possible could give her our worse nightmare happened, at 10:30pm they were prepping her for V-A ECMO.

EMCO has been a scary word for me from the very beginning of this. It means she fought with everything she had and she was to tired to keep fighting and she needed help. You can see it as life support which is a scary thought or you can see it as a life saver. Nick and I are looking at it as a life saver. There’s plenty of fears and complication that could arise, they most scary ones we worry about are clots and her inflammation. But she’ll now always have two wonderful nurses who know what she needs watching over her. And she’ll have us too.

Now we just wait. She could only need a few days, she could need a few weeks. But whatever she’s needs we’ll give it to her.

Thank you to everyone for giving us words of encouragement and sending us strength. ❤️💪🏻❤️💪🏻❤️💪🏻

Love,
