Jacque’s Story

Site created on August 16, 2018

At 4:44 am Saturday, November 3, 2018 Jacqueline Leona Lewis (Brant) joined the angels, surrounded by her beloved husband, Brad Lewis, and children, Danielle Lewis and Jeremiah (JD) Lewis.

Jacque was born in Boise, Idaho to Nelson David Brant and Beverly Larsen on January 14, 1956. Though her childhood was tumultuous, as she lived with various family members including her Uncle Calvin “Bud” and Aunt Lillian Brant, she always maintained a cheery outlook on life, always concerned about making others happy. She graduated Boise High School before attending the Boise Barber College.

As an assistant at Just Hair, Jacque met Brad. Their connection was almost immediate – to the point he was getting frequent haircuts. When she finally agreed to go out to the disco with him, he already thought she might be The One. Even though she stood him up, Brad persisted. Love of two was one and within a few weeks, she agreed to marry him! They married March 5, 1977; she in petal blue, he in groovy tan corduroy, surrounded by friends and family. He was everything she had hoped for; she was everything he needed.

The 80s brought children, Danielle and JD. Jacque returned to work once the children were older, but not as a barber. Instead she turned to one of her passions: gardening. After a season of mowing lawns with Lavell Lawn Care, she refined her gardening skills and increased knowledge at Hillside Nursery. This job would eventually lead to her last job: caretaker of a personal estate/ranch.

No matter the trial thrown into her path, Jacque found her way through with a smile. Her diagnosis of lupus might have slowed her down, but one could not tell from the beauty of her garden. She adored the great outdoors and always felt best with dirt ground into her fingers and the wind in her hair. She loved her children through their own trials, always supporting their exploration of their paths. Her love and bond with Brad never waned. They traveled the world, delighting in visits to Switzerland, Hawaii, the Oregon and Washington Coast, and Disneyland with family.

Jacque’s love continues on in her husband, Brad, and her children, Danielle and JD (as well as wife, Giovanna); her numerous siblings, both in Idaho and Oregon; her cousins; her nieces and nephews; her friends; her pets; and her garden. Without a doubt, her beloved father welcomed her into the choir of angels – and put her to work on the gardens of the afterlife, maybe with a break for fishing every now and then.

Jacque requested her Celebration of Life to happen in the spring when the flowers, plants, and trees have woken from their slumber. Please join us at St. Chapelle, May 11, 2019 from 2 PM to 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lupus Foundation of America, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or The Idaho Botanical Garden.

Mom’s bench has been installed at the Idaho Botanical Gardens. It’s located in the Meditation Garden, right next to a lilac bush.

Her Celebration of Life is this Saturday from 2-5 at Ste Chapelle. We look forward to seeing everyone.

The Botanical Gardens are open free to the public on Sunday, Mother’s Day, so that’s a good opportunity to go see it.

Thank you everyone.
