Jacob Allen’s Story

Site created on May 4, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Many of you know our struggles to start our family.   After many failed IVF treatments and the loss of our twins at 23 weeks, we started the adoption process in the fall of 2019.  We were thrilled when we got the call in March 2020 that we had been matched.  Our little boy would be arriving around July 22nd, 2020.  Or so we thought.  He had other plans and we got the call on April 27th, 2020 that our little boy was here at 27 weeks.

Bill and I frantically  got our things together and drove down to Florida the next day.  We Finally got to see our little boy, Jacob Allen Stubbs on April 30th, 2020, my birthday!  Little man is doing well.  We will keep updates and pictures here on CaringBridge.

Thank you all for those that have reached out, supported us (emotionally and financially).  There are not enough "thank you's" , "appreciate you" and "love You's" to express how much you mean to us and our little family.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jill and Bill Stubbs

I can't believe we've been home for 3 weeks.  Time is flying by!  We were really busy the first 2 weeks we were home.  Now things are finally settling into a routine of sorts.  Bill is back to work and I'm trying to soak up every minute I can until I return to work on October 5th.

Here's a quick recap of the past few weeks for those of you interested!

We've gone to 3 doctor appointments for Jacob- The pediatrician, Cardiologist, and GI doctor.  Pediatrician went over his history and gave him a quick exam.  She said everything is looking good and wrote up referrals for all the doctors we need to follow up with.  At the cardiologist, it was determined that Jacob does have a small PDA, a value that is supposed to close at birth but hasn't yet.  It's very common for preemies to have and the doctor felt like his will close with some more time.  We'll go back in March for another heart scan.  The GI spent a lot of time talking about Jacob's history as well.  She took some blood to run some tests and requested the liver biopsy from the NICU.  She said she likes to look at it with her own eyes as well.  So far the only thing that has changed is we've added another vitamin to Jacob's feeding routine.  It's for his vitamin K and D.  It's this deep orange color that turns his poop orange!  The GI doctor gave me the impression that she thinks the problem could be Jacob's prematurity and the fluids they gave him after birth and a couple of factors dealing with his birth mother.  We hope this is the case and everything will work itself out.  His Bilirubin levels went down a point since last checked, but are still very high.  Hopefully, we will know more after our next appointment.
We have about 5 appointments scheduled for future dates.  We will follow up with GI and the Pediatrician at the end of the month.  We'll see the cardiologist in March.  We also have appointments with Genetics, Audiology, and we were referred to the Babies Can't Wait program

We also spent the last couple of weeks looking into Daycare, or Child Learning Centers, for Jacob.
We visited either in person or virtually about 8 different options for Jacob, including 2 in home centers.  We think we've decided on our favorite.  Jacob will have to go only 3 days a week because of Bill's schedule.  (He usually works weekends)  Bill will also be able to drop Jacob off mid morning, then Jill will pick him up after school.

Florida Law says that adoptive parents need at least 3 post placement home study visits before the adoption can be finalized.  We've already had our 1st one and the 2nd one is schedule for the end of the month. Hopefully we will have the 3rd one in October and that will get the ball rolling to finalize the adoption.  Our home study caseworker said she hopes that we can finalize before the end of the year.  We hope so too!  Fingers crossed!!!!

Other than Doctor visits and 'school' visits we stay mostly at home. We had our first Georgia family outing to the Botanical Gardens.  Jacob slept through most of it!  Jacob also met his cousin Amethyst!

While at home Jacob likes tummy time and is beginning to smile and coo more.  As of September 3rd he was 10lbs 8oz!  Everyone seems happy with his weight gain.  Overall, we think he is doing great!  We're so in love....
