Jack’s Story

Site created on January 17, 2022

On January 12, 2022, Jack suffered a hemmoragic stroke on the right side of his brain.  This type of stroke includes bleeding on the brain.  This bleeding causes pressure on the brain which can cause damage.  The doctors believe that this type of stroke is due to prolonged high blood pressure.  He had a successful procedure that night to insert a tube to drain the blood/fluid and relieve the pressure.  He is currently in ICU at Medical City McKinney.  While there are still so many unknowns, here is what we know as of now.

Jack is on a ventilator and sedated.  The most important thing is to keep him calm and his blood pressure even.  The doctors have reduced the sedation a few times, for a short time, so that they can test him.  He is responding to their requests to wiggle his toes and move his hand.  His left side is noticeably weaker than his right.

The nurse let us know that the brain heals very slowly and that this is a long process and we need to be patient.

Journal entry by Amy Guerrero

Jack was transferred to Baylor Hospital late Sunday as he was having some chest pains and labored breathing.  They believe he still has some pneumonia left and that is the cause.  They are treating him for that.

He’s had lots of tests. Right now they are thinking the pain he’s feeling is due to him still having pneumonia.  They other hospital had stopped treating him for pneumonia so they have started him back on meds and breathing treatments.  The cardiologist said that he does have some heart issues they need to address but that they are going to just treat with medication for now. They won’t do the cardiac catheter now because he’s still to weak and it’s not worth the risk at this time.  The speech pathologist put the speaking valve on him and we actually heard him.

They collected sputum so hopefully that will come back and they can see how they need to treat him. They are going to do a barium swallow test at 2pm. And the nutritionalist changed his tube feeding. The nurse wasn’t sure what the difference was so we need to ask why the change. I’m thinking this new one may have more vitamins maybe.

We are encouraged and feel blessed that he is at Baylor being treated.

Please be in prayer that he will be able to stay there for as long as needed to get these health issues addressed.  Pray for the doctors and nurses treating him to have wisdom, discernment and compassion with their treatment.  Pray for healing for Jack and continuous improvement.
