Michelle’s Story

Site created on June 7, 2020

First, thank you for checking in on our new baby boy! 💙💙
We are so grateful and appreciative of all of your love, support, prayers and words of hope & encouragement.

We will be using this site to keep family and friends updated on Jackson over the next few months of his stay in the neonatal intensive care unit at West Allis Memorial.

Jackson came into our world in a huge hurry... Only 8 minutes separated the time they decided to deliver him from the time he was actually born. His actual due date wasn't until Sept 16th, but due to complications with placenta previa, he decided to join us more than 3 month early. We have a long road ahead of us, but we're very hopeful that everything will be okay and that we will be at home with him by the end of summer.
As of right now, he is doing very well and the doctors are also confident in his recovery. Jake or I will do our best to post updates and information as often as possible.
Love you all and thank you again for visiting our site. 💙💙

Journal entry by Michelle Filbert

Well, this is bitter sweet, but definitely more so, sweet. 😊  This will be my/our last post, becaaaauuse... we got to bring Jackson home today!!!! ❤❤❤😁😁😁    It was a day full of emotions - excitment, tears while saying goodbye to all the nurses, disbelief, happiness, gratefulness... it was pretty overwhelming but oh my gosh, so, so incredible!  93 days of intense ups and downs, back and forth from the hospital, hours upon hours at his bedside, sleepless nights and he is finally home and the three of us are finally together!  It was all such an amazing & wild experience.

Jackson did come home on oxygen, which is a little bit of a hassle, but at least he is finally here! They think he'll probably be on it for a couple months - we'll have to see a pulmonologist pretty regularly and they will slowly start to wean him off over time, depending on how he is doing.
Other than that, we have to give him vitamins, eye drops and an inhaler every day for a while.  Our lives are about to be drastically different, but we are so excited!!

Once again, we want to thank all of you, so very much for keeping up with our posts, caring for our little man and for all your thoughts and prayers (God was clearly watching over him the last several months and we are forever grateful!!)  We love you all!!! ❤❤❤
