Jack’s Story

Site created on May 26, 2022

Welcome to Jack's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. This journey for Jack will be one that needs a lot of support, love, and prayers. We know that everyone will be curious about the diagnosis and treatment as well as the needs for the family. Here is where you will find all of that information.

If you would like to donate to the family, please use the following Venmo account to ensure that the donations go directly to Sara and not to the Caring Bridge site. While any donation is appreciated, the Tributes for Caring Bridge go to the company in honor of Jack and not to the family. Here is the Venmo account to use: @Sara-McMillian-2

On Wednesday the 25th Jack was taken to the doctor to check out his leg pain that he had been having for a couple of days. After running through an exam and being checked over, the doctor sent the family to Wesley Hospital to be admitted for more testing, the mention of leukemia was talked about but was not confirmed just yet. Today after some more labs were drawn and visits from the oncology team, it is confirmed that Jack does have a form of leukemia. There will be more testing on his bone marrow to determine if he has ALL or AML. Please be praying for ALL, this type of leukemia has a very high chance of being cured quickly through treatments that are not as invasive as AML.  Right now it is hard for Jack to get comfortable enough to sleep so prayers for some peace and comfort and lots of sleep are also appreciated.

Jack was able to have a very special visitor today, a sweet golden retriever! While Sara and Heath are taking notes and listening to the doctors, the nurses are keeping Jack smiling.

As more information is available, we will keep this site updated with news and pictures. At this time prayers are the most needed item on their plate as they wait to learn more about Jack's diagnosis and treatment plan.

Journal entry by Sara McMillian

Hey friends!  How is it February?  Jack was home sick yesterday, but he is feeling better today!

Eli turned 7 the 16th of Jan. and both boys are loving Fortnite and it has been nice enough this week to play outside!

We are doing good other than the few sicknesses lately!

Jack still does treatment every day at home and every month we go for labs and 3 months we go in for a Lumbar puncture.  We are just a couple weeks out of a LP (Lumbar Puncture and Jack's little body didn't handle it well this last round, he was admitted a couple weeks ago while I was a Photography conference and my momma heart felt so guilty!

I went to Charleston for a photo seminar and it filled this mama's heart!   SOOOOOOO Thankful for community and a great nana and papa (McMillian) who saved this mama!  We live on the same section of Land as our in-laws #blessed :)

Heath has been driving a semi a little this winter, not near as much as last year and home in the evenings.  Mom is starting to get busier and loves being help provide more for our family!  It has been fun to watch Jack and Eli grow during this cancer season and crazy that in 3 months it will be TWO YEARS since diagnosis.

You can book a photo session here contact me and let me know what you need!  And if you or you hear anyone talking about needing new marketing headshots or real estate photos, I can do that too.  Give them my info!

Monday, Feb. 19th I am doing business headshot mini's at this cute air b&b in Hutchinson, KS!  Call me for details or book here!

I also help other business owners run their social media, so if this is the year you want to be more social, I can take that off your plate for you.  I love it!  I can talk you through all of the ways I can help you!  316-640-3457.

They say to talk to people in your circles first before you engage your ideas with the world :)  So you all get first dibs!

And, if your a mom who struggles with laundry, I discovered a new place in Hutch, Busy bee Laundry, and all you have to do is drop off your clothes, and they will wash, fold, and bag up for ya!

Thank you for those who send him cards and check in with us.  It is a long process to get to the other side of cancer, but hopefully, August 16th is our "cancer free day!"  Thank you for our faithful friends who send food gift cards, we will never be sad when those come because 2024 is expensive lol.  Who would have ever thought food prices would be this crazy!  :)
