Jackie isn't a big fan of social media, but family and friends have been asking for a place for updates on mom and so with her permission we have created this page. I know that my mom has touched many people and so many people love and care about her and want to know how she is each day and so Jordan, Annika and I will do our best to keep people updated here on mom's battle with cancer. We are so humbled by and grateful for the outpouring of love to our parents during this difficult time.
One thing we are not asking for here is advice and ideas on treatment. We've been boots on the ground with mom and dad and her teams of medical professionals and mom is choosing the care for her life. We know people mean well, but we also know the intricacies of the specific cancer mom has and how it has affected her body and her spirit. What mom needs is to be surrounded by love, to be supported in all of her decisions, and for her community to surround her in celebrating today- each day that we get together with her.
As a family we remain full of hope and full of joy, but we also are realistic that there is not a cure for mom's cancer, it will not be going away. We are going forward treating her symptoms and working with her medical team to make sure that she is comfortable and peaceful. We ask that her community also go forward in hope and in joy but not have unrealistic expectations.
Mom believes strongly in the power of today- and the Buddhist principles of letting go of expectations and living in the moment, experiencing each moment and just simply being in the now. She has taught me these things over the years and I believe that they will help us all endure this battle with her.
