Jack (John)’s Story

A new chapter for Dad and for all those who love him.

As most of you know, Dad has been suffering for the past several years with chronic COPD.  He has been in and out of the hospital several times, most recently just yesterday.  The doctors have determined that Dad is end stage COPD and medically, there is nothing more they can do for him except to make him more comfortable.  This is a tough pill to swallow.
Yesterday, Dad was released from the hospital to come home and receive hospice care at home.

Hospice can mean different things to different people, depending as always on what experiences a person has to draw from.  Every home hospice experience is unique to the individual getting the care. Bottom line, this process is about Dad and what Dad needs to avoid the revolving door of the hospital and what he wants.  Knowing Dad, he will express those needs and wants differently to each person.

Nikki set up this website (and I offered to help as co-admin) so everyone can share thoughts, pictures, kind words, and updates on Dad.  Please be thoughtful and considerate in your responses and questions, remembering that every person handles life's challenges in different ways.

Love to all.

I know this page is not for letters to my dad but it feels right.....

Dad,

Good Morning.....
We're here in TN on vacation.
I recall sitting on the couch with you a couple weeks ago asking you if we should still plan our vacation?  You told me to "go were mt heart is"...   My heart is with you!!  We are surrounded by mountains and I know you would love it here....   Maybe you've been here...  even here my days are filled with thoughts and memories of you....

Love and miss you,

Your little girl
