Newest Update

Journal entry by Dianne Shelton

I titled this update "The port is gone!" because that is a big deal!  It's one more step to getting my life back!  However, that life will probably be different!  I will appreciate life so much more.  It's a shame that we have to get sick to learn that lesson!

I am starting to get some of my energy back slowly.  I am really resting and taking it easy because I have a trip to go on!  Our sister trip we took two years ago was planned and flights made before the cancer diagnosis.  We have been waiting to see if I would be able to go to Washington DC as planned.  It looks like we are going!  I am hoping that I am strong enough to travel but have the help of Toni, Rhonda and Brenda so I should be good!

I have an expansion appointment the day before we leave and am a little nervous about it. I may have to delay the expansion a week.  Each week of expansion seems to bring more pain as it stretches the skin and muscles. Not sure how many more expansions will be done before the implant surgery yet.  It's a slow process but that is ok since the last one was so painful.  This one made me wonder why I am even doing reconstruction!

I have delayed starting the oral chemo because I don't want to deal with the several possible side effects during my trip.  Hopefully it won't be bother me but I don't know so decided to wait.  I just want a break from all of this for a few days!

PSA - Please do monthly self exams and annual mammograms.
