Isaac’s Story

Site created on April 30, 2021

On Sunday, April 18, 2021 Isaac began with severe pain on the right side of his abdomen.  On Monday morning, April 19, we went to see our family doctor.  He sent us on to the ER at Mercer Health thinking it was probably appendicitis.  After a CAT scan, appendicitis was ruled out but they found a mass inside his liver.  We were then sent to Children's Hospital in Dayton.  He had a biopsy done on April 22.  The biopsy confirmed that the mass was cancer.

The tumor has also grown through the liver wall  into the diaphragm.  They are not certain but believe a couple of lymph nodes and kidney could have cancer cells as well.   Dr. Wright, his oncologist at Children's Hospital in Dayton is working with doctors from Children's Hospital in Cincinnati and doctors from Nationwide Hospital in Columbus to determine weather to do surgery to remove the cancer or start with chemotherapy to shrink it.

Hi everyone,
Isaac had a doctor's appointment scheduled last week for a port flush and to check on how he was doing. It ended up being pushed forward a couple days because he ended up getting sick with what the doctors think was a flu bug.
He's been doing better since last week, but is still tired from the sickness and has been getting headaches more recently.
Prayers would be appreciated that his headaches would go away and that there would not be a bigger issue behind these headaches.
We go back to Dayton on May 16th for a port flush and then for scans in June.

I was reading this week in the book of Daniel, and was reminded of the importance of prayer, something I tend to devalue or not take as seriously. In this book, Daniel was mourning and praying for 21 days because of Israel's captivity in Babylon. After this time of praying a man came to him in a vision and said "from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words." Daniel 10:12
I found this very encouraging because it says above that from the first days his prayers were heard, however he didn't get an answer until after 21 days. God hears our prayers but will answer in His timing and in ways we may not expect. We just have to remain faithful. May we all remain faithful in the study of His word and through prayer till the day He comes or we are called home!
