Hi all! Iris is continuing to get better each day. She is talking more, getting more active, and playing well. The doctors have tapered down or eliminated most of her continuous medications. Unfortunately, we will not make it home by her birthday tomorrow. Iris has two major hurdles to jump before we can take her home…
- She still isn’t swallowing. Her throat was so sore for so long that we think she is afraid to start swallowing again. As a result, her spit is pooling in her mouth until she either spits it out or chokes on it. She is also refusing to eat or drink.
- She isn’t tolerating any of the NG feeding formulas they have tried. They all cause her extreme gastric discomfort. Obviously, it would be ideal for her to be eating and drinking normally, but in the absence of normal feeding this is the only option that would enable her to go home.
She is still having some blood pressure issues but they primarily a result of fluid imbalance (more in than out). Otherwise, all of her numbers are in good shape, so these two hurdles are the only things holding her here. Please, pray earnestly that that these two issues are resolved expeditiously!
