Maggie’s Story

Site created on January 17, 2019

Most people don't know the true condition of my wonderful husband. He is a loving and kind man who never ceases to make me laugh multiple times per day. He is also sick; very sick. This is a blog I have decided to start to not only help me learn how to cope and navigate this new stage in our lives, but to keep all of our family and friends in the loop of what's going on with Matthew and his health. I am hopeful that this blog will remind people that God is great and love exists in this crazy, insane world. I hope that someone who is struggling with similar difficulties finds hope and support in each post I make.

Journal entry by Maggie Shumpert

Rest...it's needed to refresh and renew us. Rest is not just physical though, it's also emotional and spiritual. Personally, I feel emotional rest is more important and needed than physical rest.

Matthew has had some concerning symptoms lately. His normal symptoms that typically only occur when he's very tired have been present all day, each day. He's followed up with his neurologist and had a MRI; so far no answers from that test as it appeared to be normal. He's tired; tired of tests, doctors, and not feeling like himself and not knowing/understanding why he feels the way he feels. He needed rest. Quite frankly, so did I and the girls. So, what did we do? Matthew took a rest and a break. He went to the mountains with his mom, dad, and other family members while the girls and I stayed home and had a girl's weekend. Rest...we had rest!

This weekend gave me lots of time to think as well. A lot has happened lately; not just with Matthew's illness seeming to rear its head again, but I also left my job and started my own business. It's going well, but like any new business; it's slow to start up. This leads to anxiety and stress. I needed rest. I love how God knows when we need this rest too. Let's face it...He knows it before we do or before we acknowledge that it's needed. God has never failed me yet and He won't fail me now. I choose to rest when I can and trust Him always. He is forever with us and always loves us and provides rest for us when it's needed.

And He said, "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14
