Journal

Well hello, my wonderful support team. I hope you’re all sitting down because this one is a doozy. As we all know, two weeks ago I had surgery, a bilateral mastectomy and the start of reconstruction. Essentially it was two surgeries in one day so it took about six hours. Two surgeons worked on me and it went well. Afterward I spent a couple hours in the recovery room trying to avoid the urge to vomit while at the same time trying to get some food in my stomach to help ease with tolerating the pain meds. Dealing with the after effects of anesthesia is not a lot of fun. The day after surgery was pretty much a blur since I was jam packed with eight different medications plus still some of the anesthesia I’m sure. I actually don’t recall that day at all but apparently I’m quite entertaining when I’m on pain meds.
Recovery from surgery was going great until last week when one of my tissue expanders ruptured after a follow up appointment.  It was scary and painful, and pretty frustrating to be honest because I knew it meant there would be a huge setback. So now I’ll need another operation to remove and replace the damaged expander. I mean seriously folks this is getting pretty comical, right. Remember way back when I said I really couldn’t believe this was all happening to me? I kept thinking the doctors must have me confused with someone else. Well this rates right up there with that. So on April 1st, yes April Fools Day people, I’ll be going in for surgery again. And that means two more weeks of not being able to drive and not being able to lift more than five pounds but on the upside I will only have one T. rex arm. Unfortunately I’m right handed and the good side right now is my left side. So I’m still going to be a lefty from now until two weeks after surgery. All that being said, I still have no complaints. I still have pain from the incisions and from the damaged expander but I keep having to remind myself that it’s all temporary. Told you this was a doozy! Thanks everyone for all of the support through all of this. Keep the jokes coming by the way. It really helps more than the medication sometimes.
