Journal

I've been waiting for some dust to settle in order to post an update since my last update after surgery in followed by a Gamma Knife treatment in September because it seemed like every time I had an update to share I would discover a little issue left unresolved.  So my update would have been a rambling half-truth.  The recovery was mostly smooth, with only short-term discomfort from the chemo wafers left in my brain and the follow-up MRIs,  most recently in December, were clear.  Torso scan in January was also clear with no symptoms or evidence of new trouble spots.  Some issues popped up with my leg, so I was hauled in for ultrasound tests, and leg MRIs scheduled, but in the end treated by an orthopedic specialist and MRIs canceled as it seems to be the same old majorette injury from high school and years of hard use of that knee, rather than any relationship to cancer causing the trouble.  I'm back to walking happily, and walking around here in Mt. Dora, Florida where Dennis and I have been enjoying sunny, warm days and preparing our little day sailer boat and trailer for some good times on the water.  Photos to come.

The spring semester began with a bang right after MLK day, and that bang was the sound of high winds and snowstorms in the mountains of North Carolina.  We were delayed in traveling to Florida, due to some damage to our house, yard, and car from tree branches falling during a week of storms in January.  All was patched up well enough to get the semester started online (I teach remotely anyway) and make a getaway.  After a wonderful season of holiday music with the St. Luke's Choir, and visitors from longtime friends and family, I feel incredibly overwhelmed with the happy fortune of singing with the St. Margaret Mary Choir in Winter Park for a few weeks, where I used to teach school and work as a staff musician.  Being here and hanging out with Florida peeps has already been restorative.

Your smiles and good wishes and words of encouragement have been entangled right into my heartbeat.  People I barely know still tell me that they pray for me, and I see what sharing a kind word or thought can do to help someone like me who is already pretty lucky.  So y'all keep up the good work and I'll do my best.
