After a Sunday (1/30) experiencing slight dizziness, India had a seizure at home on Monday night. She was transported via ambulance to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest (ACHNW) ER where she continued to have seizures and was unresponsive. ACHNW airlifted India to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Little Rock where she was admitted into the ICU early Tuesday morning. She continued to have seizures and her medical team added a ventilator and a medically induced coma to her treatment. The plan was to have her in a medically induced coma for 48 hours, but she continued to have seizures. They extended her coma for five days. On Saturday (2/5), her team began the very slow process of bringing her out of the coma. Our hope is that she remains seizure free as she regains consciousness and is able to breathe on her own soon.
The cause of the seizures is still unknown. All tests have returned normal. We are waiting on test results from Mayo Clinic Labs to determine if a rare autoimmune disorder was the cause. This could take several weeks.
