Huang family’s Story

Site created on December 31, 2018

On Friday, December 28th 2018, Jerry and Ellen took a day off to bring the girls to see the crocodiles by Sugar Land.  On a two lane highway, a car going in the opposite direction tried to go around a slower car and swung out and collided head on with the Huang’s new Honda minivan.

The impact was traumatic and severe - the car was totaled and the seat belts saved their lives but also caused internal damage.  Lydia was in critical condition due to internal bleeding and was airlifted while the rest rode in ambulances to Memorial Hermann hospital in Houston.

Jerry was discharged with a wrist injury and Candace was discharged with a fractured orbital bone.  Her face was very swollen. Candace has been staying with the Chii’s since Jerry is staying in the hospital, splitting time between Ellen and Lydia who is at Children Memorial Hermann in a connected building. Ellen and Lydia have been admitted to the hospital with significant injuries.

We are using this site to keep family and friends updated. Click on Read More Journal Entries at the bottom of each entry to see other updates as there may be multiple in one day.

In order not to overwhelm the family with visitors, there is a separate Sign Up Genius set up to sign up for visitation and other requests. This will evolve as the family transitions home and requires support at home as well.

God was merciful in sparing the Huangs and we are so thankful for His goodness.  The family appreciates your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement.

UPDATE as of 1/4/19 (Please check individual update entries for more details.)

Lydia is home! Candace had an outpatient surgery and is recovering. Ellen is still in the hospital. Ellen’s sister is here in Houston now. Jerry is splitting time between home and hospital along with Ellen’s sister.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jerry Huang

Hi all,

It has been a while since my last post, I first want to thank God who answered multiple prayers and continue to use people to encourage us throughout this trial. Because of your overwhelming support, we considered this event as a blessing instead of a hardship. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Here is an update of my family’s current conditions.

Ellen: All her follow ups went well, doctors said her elbow and back are healing properly from x-ray. Ellen feels her legs are little uneven after the surgery but her neurosurgeon reassure her that she will eventually be back to normal. She will continue to wear brace for another month but she can resume driving now.

Lydia: Her left shoulder bone are healing well and her muscle is awaken so she regained her range of motions. She is doing some excises now to build up her strength. Her nightmare is less frequent and her separation anxiety is getting better day by day.

Candace: Her nose is continue to heal from the surgery and her swelling has gone down considerably. Her eye sights are not impact by the accident.

Jerry: Most of the bills are approved by the health insurance and now we are just dealing with auto insurances from both parties since the guy who caused the accident doesn’t have adequate insurance to cover this accident. It is going to be a long process so I will appreciate if you can pray for us.

Overall, we are very grateful for all of you and we are looking forward to connect with everyone when we are fully recovered from our injuries.
