Sign In to Show Your SupportI reflect on how words could possibly express or convey the overwhelming emotions we feel as we walk through this difficult time. Our hearts are filled with Thanksgiving and praise to God for the HOPE that sustains us knowing Dad has been given his crown of glory and laid it at the feet of Jesus. Our hearts are broken in pain as we feel the incredible loss of saying goodbye to the man we so deeply love and will miss until we step on heaven’s shore. Early Sunday morning our precious dad was called into the glorious light that he reflected during his life here with us.
Throughout the Bible, light has always been a symbol of holiness, goodness, knowledge, grace, and HOPE. In the beginning of time, God brought forth the light to break through the darkness. How amazing it is for our infinite and omnipotent God, to create light by simply calling it into being, and those who choose to respond are ushered into the sphere of life in which darkness is forever dispelled.
As we approach Christmas, we reflect on the light of that beautiful night when Jesus was born. The star that rested over the stable fulfilling prophecy and revealing God’s plan of redemption. Emmanuel God with us. The light that filled the sky with the Glory of God as a multitude of angels praised God in announcing the birth of our Savior to the shepherds. AND this light continues to guide us as we move forward one day at a time. It brings us love, joy, and the peace of God that passes all understanding.
Jesus came as the light of the world, His redeeming work on the cross of Calvary broke through the chains of sin and darkness that had separated us from God. This gift of Salvation, once and for all, bridged the gap between heaven and earth. Jesus Christ gives life eternal, and those who follow him "will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
As God's people we are called to carry this light into the world.
Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven".
Our prayer is that we all strive with intention to live every day in truth as we bring Glory to God and reflect His love, forgiveness, and HOPE to our hurting and broken world as our precious dad did for so many years. To God Be The Glory!
Thank you for your love, continued prayers, and support. What an incredible blessing and encouragement you have all been as we navigated through these last 3 weeks and now face the future without our beloved Howard.
Love,
The Hoekstra Family
