Journal entry by Holly Lathe —
This week has been a good week. I am feeling almost like regular "me." The larger side effects have subsided and the past three days I've felt a more clear head. I am still inconvenienced with small things, but all are manageable and I have another full week before my next round of chemo.
Task master that I am, I am now tasking myself with the slowing down and care of me. Eating smart and simple, finding quiet, being outside, sleeping. If you know me, you know this is indeed a challenge. But I am determined to beat cancer, and will embrace the challenge. One. Day. At. A. Time.
I've been able to get out into the yard almost daily and my mom was here this past week to help ease the pace of what normal is in our household (what a huge help and encouragement!). Earlier in the week, Garrett built me a sunset fire to sit beside, facing the pond--he just makes my life better at every turn. Meal Train has been so helpful in providing ease for us as well, and we all send many thanks for that generous outreach:) I have a box of cards from all directions and pockets of my life and I'm planning to bring them along to my next round of chemo to re-read. Your words matter, dear friends, and I am leaning in to each one of you.
With college kids coming home next weekend, we took time to restock the house with all of the basics and prepare rooms (thank you, Mom, for all of that help!). I am eager to be together and to have them home. In the afternoon, my mom and I headed to get some garden flowers. It's always so fun to dream garden dreams! I'll be able to get plants into pots and flowerbeds throughout the week, and I know having that piece of life and beauty here will help me; caretaking one pot, one space, one plant at a time.
Thank you, all, for the care and love--in all its forms--you have brought to us. Good is all around.
With gratitude, Holly
P.S. I still have my hair...crazy as ever!
