Herb’s Story

Site created on October 3, 2022

At the beginning of March 2022, Herb suddenly stopped having an appetite. Foods that he once loved no longer tasted good.

Around June 2022, he developed a cough that was persistent throughout each day. After visiting his primary care doctor and not seeing any results he was referred to pulmonologist to seek more testing on his lungs. After having a x-ray and seeing nothing on the scan they gave him an inhaler and were testing out allergies to eliminate causes.

Fast forward to September and with the cough getting more intense and severe, Herb requested a CT scan for further testing.  That’s when all of our lives changed.  He received a call from the doctor that they had found lesions on his liver and they wanted to do more testing.
They completed another CT scan and found a 6 inch tumor on his liver, lesions on the lymph nodes, and bile ducts.  They conducted a MRI of the brain and completed a biopsy to test the tissue.

He has been diagnosed with stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma and the doctors have given him 2-5 years with surgery not being an option at this time.  Unfortunately, this is a very rare and aggressive cancer.

He starts his journey with chemo this month (October 2022) and will start treatments to kick cancers ass!!!

We will post more updates as they come available.

Journal entry by Debbie Wright

Three weeks ago we were on a huge high thinking Herb would be with us for a long time. His scans showed stable and he would no longer have to have chemo treatments for the long period of time.
This past Monday I brought Herb to the ER as he was having discomfort and mild pain under his ribs. The CT Scan showed Herbs cancer has progressed significantly throughout his liver and lungs.
We met with his oncologist on Tuesday and Herb received his options. We went home and have talked about this and today Herb has decided not to continue to do any more treatments. He is tired. We are being set up to receive Palliative Care. I ask that you all keep him in your prayers. I don’t know what the next few months will look like but I pray he is pain free and can do a few things that he would like too. I’m devastated that my best friend and the love of my life is going through this. Thank you all for your continuing love and support .
