Journal

During the weekend prior to Halloween, Henry’s belly looked very distended.  It was found that his transhepatic line had migrated from the liver into the peritoneum.  A large volume of fluid was removed from his belly, and a new PICC line was placed in the right arm.  He was recovering well until Wednesday morning when he had two seizure-like episodes, with the second causing him to code.  On Friday, since Henry was now intubated, the Froedtert team performed a cerebral angiogram.  With the diagnosis of a mycotic pseudoaneurysm, treatment of any kind would do more harm than good.

With no surgical options remaining, our goal was to get Henry to his 1st birthday.  He continued having seizure-like episodes, during which his oxygen saturations dropped drastically and would take a long time to recover (almost like SIDS events).  Unfortunately, on the afternoon of November 11th, the last episode sent Henry into cardiac arrest.  The team administered CPR for at least 30 minutes while we rushed to the hospital.  Once compressions were stopped, by the miracle of God, Henry’s heart began to beat.  I held him in my arms, with my parents on either side, as we said our goodbyes.  As Brandon walked into the room, Henry took his last breath and ascended to Heaven.

Henry was a borrowed angel, and we are so incredibly blessed that God chose us to be his mom & dad.

❤️ Angela & Brandon
