Gary’s Story

Site created on February 18, 2024

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Gary Mula. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. As we have more tasks and asks, we will update this site and invite you to help out however you can.

Gary's health challenges came quickly and landed pretty hard. Gary was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and this was a surprise that no one necessarily saw coming or welcomed. He is getting treatment at Swedish Medical Center and has a great team of physicians, nurses and oncologists supporting him.

For those of you who have dealt with a loved one facing a diagnosis like this, you know how hard this can be on the person and on that person's friends, family and colleagues. This is a place for all of us.

Please take heart that Gary is in really good spirits and is thinking about all of us as he charts his journey. He's smiling that Gary pirate smile, cracking jokes to whoever is in earshot and basically making himself a lovable nuisance.

With his blessing, this destination has been set up in his behalf so please, please send notes, photos and jokes his way. All forms of love and support are encouraged.

This is still a fresh diagnosis with what might be several twists and turns. Its like a really interesting spy movie from an obscure european director that only Gary really knows about but loves to tell you about after he has watched one of their films. Write yourself into this movie because we all know how much Gary loves movies.

Stay tuned...

Newest Update

Journal entry by Sonja Boyle

On May 22 Gary went into his Fourth round of Chemo and the doctor informed him that his tumor has shrunk by 50%. Gary's next question was if it was small enough to be surgically removed, and the doctor said it is still wrapped around some veins, if the tumor shrinks enough, there might be a possibility of removing it. But for now, we will celebrate the tumor shrinking!
His spirits are up and he is feeling good. The chemo gives him what's called "chemo brain", where his thoughts are a little foggy. But other than that, he has no pain.
Thank you to everyone who has sent well Wishes and has supported him through this journey. 💕
