Journal entry by Jeff Witte —
Update from Heidi.
So last week I had a neurological test performed, to try and see how my nerves are firing in my legs/feet. It was … less than pleasant!
First, a technician sent small shocks down my legs and feet to see how the electrical currents were flowing. Most seem fine. My right leg is almost totally back to normal. But my right big toe still doesn’t pull up the way it should. The left leg and foot, however, pose a problem.
Next, the Neurologist came in and poked me with a needle that had a tiny microphone in it. Yep! You read that right!!!We were trying to listen to my muscles contract!!! Amazing. … and amazingly painful. Think of poking a needle in a muscle group, then flexing said muscle group, and continuing to poke it to get a good reading! 😬 It’s a good thing I was squeezing the blanket, and not someone’s hand! 😅
Anyway, I may need surgery to alleviate pressure that may be on the nerve group that runs down the outside of my leg, right by my knee. It’s responsible for being able to pull my foot up for walking. I don’t really want to get cut anymore, but we have to wait and see if the neuro-surgeon will be here anyway.
In the meantime, I have physical therapy again. The muscles and tendons around my left leg/foot have tightened from inactivity, and being stuck in a boot.
I covet your prayers for proper healing of the bed sore, and not needing surgery. That I can pull my foot up and not have foot drop anymore.
