Journal entry by Heather Rubesch —
Hello! I have been lucky not to have to post many updates on this site recently because it has been all good news and a peaceful summer. I had a follow up with Dr Lowe my surgeon a few weeks ago and I continue to do great. In fact I was honored by my SMMC care team with a nomination to be a survivor ambassador for this years Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk on 10/27. They said they felt like my story was one that many patients and their families needed to hear. I have set a personal goal of raising $2500 to support the mission of the American Cancer Society here in Kansas City. I have been blessed with all of you to support me and bring me meals when I needed them but many cancer patients (breast and otherwise) do not have that village of support. If I raise $2500 that will provide:
- 80 rides to treatment
- 80 calls to the American Cancer Societies 24/7 cancer helpline
- 50 nights of free lodging at the Hope Lodge here in KC for patients who live too far from their treatment center to commute
I hope if you have followed my journey that you will donate even $5 to support this very worthy cause. I would also love it if you would come and walk with me on 10/27 in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk.

Thank you and I love and appreciate you all!
