Heather’s Story

Site created on May 2, 2018

Welcome to my CaringBridge website. I never thought I’d have to do this, but here we are.
I’ll put the TL;DR first: I have cancer.
Long Story:
About a year and a half ago what started as a visit to Urgent Care for dehydration ended up with surgery to remove a very angry ovary.
Fast forward eight months and I started having what felt like menstrual cramps every day, all day.
Fast forward another six months and lots of tests, including a biopsy with pre-cancerous cells and I was referred to a gynecologist oncologist and a hysterectomy was recommended as the best course of treatment and in all likelihood the only treatment necessary.
Fast forward to April 23; during my hysterectomy cancer was found outside of the uterus and they were unable at that time to determine the origins of said cancer. Needless to say, additional treatment will be needed!
Thank you for supporting me and my primary caregiver, formally known as Mom, through this journey. I will do my best to add journal entries as things progress.

Journal entry by Heather Ellis

Got the results of my 9 month, (almost 11 month really) CT scans and blood work today and they were all clear. That, combined with a good pelvic  exam, means I’ve officially been in remission for almost 11 months!
I’m thinking a party might be in order.
