Heather’s Story

Hello Friends & Family!!
Welcome to my CaringBridge website. I plan to use this to keep my family & friends updated in one place without having to contact everyone every time I get news or know more info & to keep everyone on the same page without as many rumors & such!!
With that being said, from the beginning…
After about 4 months of not feeling great & some other things going on with my body I finally set up an appointment & went in on Friday, November 5th for a physical & let my nurse practitioner know a few things that I had been experiencing. I then went for bloodwork the same day. I found out the next week I’m severely anemic & low on iron & then about a week & a half later I met with Dr. McAllaster. He immediately scheduled a colonoscopy.
That colonoscopy was Monday, December 13th.
I was told that day he did find a mass in my colon, it appeared to be cancer & I would hear more once my pathology tests come back.
I am fighting Stage 4 Colon Cancer. The cancer is in my colon & has also spread to my liver.
I went through 12 rounds of chemo in Effingham.
On August 23, 2022 I went in for a 6 hour surgery. I had a couple different surgeons & their teams working on me. I had about a foot & a half of my colon cut out, gallbladder removed & a hepatic artery pump placed in my abdomen.
I currently go to Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis for treatment & doctoring.

Thanks SO Much for all your prayers, love & support!! I truly appreciate them ALL!!!
Love,
Heather, Mike, Kaden, Kale, Keaton & Kyson

Good Morning Fight Club!! 👋
Yesterday was chemo day again. Man does 2 weeks go FAST!! It was another good day at Siteman!! It started out with labs & my port was giving us some trouble, so we had to use the port “draino” & by the time I got back to the infusion room we were back in business & it worked great!! Labs came back pretty good. Liver number are still a little elevated but nothing like they were. Bilirubin is staying in the green, which is awesome & my CEA dropped a bit more 🙌🙌🙌 this week it’s 3.5!! Loving those numbers being in the green on my charts!! Haha That liver ablation a few weeks ago was ROUGH but SOOOOOO worth it!! It seems like that one lesion was causing a lot of my problems. Although I know I’m far from this fight being over it’s so awesome to get good labs & does help see light at the end of the tunnel!!
These last couple weeks have been good!! I’m back to feeling pretty good again for the most part. I get worn down & my body lets me know enough is enough!! And it’s time to chill!! Haha
Also want to send a BIG Birthday shoutout to Jodi Waymoth, she is a cousin, friend & a HUGE inspiration to me!! She has helped me on this journey a TON!!! From the late messages I send & she replies no matter the time!! From the gifts & her knowledge of this all. I HATE she went through these same things but seeing her helps me to know there is hope for me too!! I WILL WIN this fight too!!! Love you Jodi & Hope you had the BEST day celebrating yesterday!!!
Well as the school year is winding down it’s sooo bitter sweet for me!!! I’m so ready for summer break for Kale & Keaton. Kyson thinks he’s ready but deep down LOVES school (he won’t admit it but he does) haha However I’m NOT ready for it all to be done for Kaden!! All these lasts are hitting harder & harder these days!!! 🥹 His senior prom is this weekend!! I can’t wait to see him & his beautiful girlfriend Kylie but wow can’t believe we are here already!! The days are long but the years are short hits home like no other these days. The boys are growing up FAST!!
Mike & I took Kaden on a college visit this week up north. Judson University was a nice campus but wow it way too far for this mom’s likings. Haha He wants to play baseball at the next level sooooo bad & he has a coach that’s interested there. God has a plan for him so we will see where he takes him next. However I hope that plan is a little closer!! Haha 😆
Asking for a few prayers from my amazing prayer warriors!! Kale is out injured from baseball, PE & activity in general right now. Has something going on in his upper leg/ groin area. We’ve done an x-ray, ultrasound & waiting on results on bloodwork now. If you know Kale he’s a VERY active kid & is ready to get back to activity!! He’s missing baseball like crazy!! Hopefully we will get him back on his feet SOON!!
Another prayer request, our janitor at ALIS is undergoing a big surgery at Barnes on Tuesday of next week. She has been diagnosed with the “C” word too. We are praying hard they can get it all & get her on the road to recovery & back on her feet. She has become a great friend & has a heart of gold!! Please say a prayer for a successful surgery & just to ease her mind!!! She will be missed at ALIS like no other but pray she will back next school year healthy!!! We love you Teresa!!!
As always THANK YOU for all your prayers!! The power of prayer is simply amazing & I’m living proof prayers are the best medicine!!
Our God is a GREAT God!!!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone & all you kiddos going to Prom be SAFE!!
Much Love,
Heather
