The surgery to take out the hardware by my big toe (as a follow up to my bunion surgery in August and the second surgery several months ago) seems to have gone very well.  Relatively little pain (at this point controlled by Tylenol,  though stronger medicine is prescribed if I need it, once the full anesthetic impact wears off by tomorrow morning).  I feel a little bit like Wylie Coyote in the cartoon with the Road Runner, where Wylie is falling off a cliff and he's half way down to the bottom, and he says "so far so good!"  And maybe (likely, I hope) it will be smooth sailing all the way.

My good friend and neighbor Alison Cave took me to the surgery and picked me up and my son Dan came down from Concord, MA to stay with me.  Both are a delight.  Not only great care, but also great entertainment.  And your comments, calls, some books, cards and diversions (that I really do not require) add to the joy I take in this moment.  Looking forward to a fairly easy and short time for recovery.  I see the doctor again on Friday.  Just before the surgery my doctor said we can review the condition in about a year and explore if additional surgery is warranted.  (Hope not!)

Of course, with the MAGA Republican threat of default (designed both to avoid taxes on their weathiest donors that will cost average taxpayers $2 trillion and to crash the economy to undermine Biden) will threaten timely payments of Social Security and veteran benefits, eliminate 100,000 jobs for teachers and support staff, put health insurance coverage at risk for 21 million Americans and put food assistance at risk for nearly 1 million.  Hoping to move on with this recovery to be back in the struggle for our future.

As always, I feel your friendship and love.  Sending these Caring Bridge notes since I may not be able to respond individually.

With love at the center--
Heather
