Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We appreciate your prayers and words of hope and encouragement.  Heather was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer  on January 28.  Five hard months of chemo starts February 16.  She'll have surgery to remove the cancer over the summer, followed by radiation and reconstruction in the fall and winter.

Many have asked how they can help.  In some ways, we just don't know what we'll need until we are in the thick of each stage of treatment.  As we asked around, people gave suggestions for ways to help.  We listed a few on the "Ways to Help" tab.  

Prayer will also be super important!  Once you sign up, check back for specific ways to pray at the moment.  We have already noticed a tangible difference in our peace as people have prayed.  There is a long road ahead and we'll need support all the way through.  As Cru staff, financial help from non-family needs to flow through give.cru.org.  We can still access funds directed toward us for medical or other needs that come up, but we can't receive income from other sources due to our unique classification with the government.

November 1, 2022-Successful Surgery

Heather is home and resting.  She's a little sleepy and weak from the surgery meds.  Everything went great! Doctor said it was exactly what he hoped for.  Everything was clean.  It'll take a couple of months for everything to heal.  She got new incisions so she can't lift heavy things or stretch for a while, so nothing major for restrictions. 

For us, we wish the day had been a little quicker, but at least it wasn't complicated.  We went in at noon for a 3:00 surgery.  We waited till 4:30 before they brought wheeled her back to the OR.  We got home about 8:30.  Just a long day at the hospital.  A couple of our awesome friends watched our kids so they had company and stayed distracted.  We are unimaginably blessed in this process.  Thank you for your prayers and kindness.
