Q: Why Chemotherapy?

A: Because we have no clue what Ssam (Havyn’s cancer) could have left behind for cells or if they have attached somewhere else in her body, waiting to grow. So, we’re killing them all, zero chance of life, mass execution. Ssam must cease to exist. 

Q: Will Havyn be able to have children in the future?

A: Maybe. Havyn’s ovary is what we’re calling, “put on pause”.  She receives a monthly shot of a drug called lupron. This drug essentially gives Havyn menopause. It shuts down her one remaining ovary in attempt to protect it from the damage of chemotherapy. So, it’s about a 50/50 shot. We’re not entirely sure. 

Q: Why not a total hysterectomy?

A: The kid is 15. Also, the ovaries have a greater function that just producing children. (This topic makes me salty, I won’t lie.) Losing both ovaries and a uterus would have a significant impact on your health, just one example is decreased bone density. One fall and that’s a broken hip. Drinking milk won’t fix that…

Q: Why can’t Havyn play basketball?

A: Having three organs removed and a tumor the size of a premature baby isn’t a surgery you just bounce back from. In addition, chemo wipes you out easily, and with Havyn having a port, being in a contact sport is a no no.
