Harry’s Story

Site created on November 5, 2023

On November 4, our dear friend Harry suffered a stroke. He passed out at home and was taken to Spectrum where they discovered 3 blood clots.  The 2 larger clots were successfully treated with clot buster therapy and the third with surgery.

It is unclear what neurological damage has occurred and what his path to healing will look like. We will post updates in the journal as we get them.

Please keep Harry and the whole Sieplinga family constantly held up in prayer, and if you are able, consider helping them out with a meal or two.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Steve Bergman

Routine is a word that often carries a negative connotation; my life is too routine; I’m stuck in a rut; same ol’ same ole; boring boring boring.  Harry’s days are becoming routine. But that’s a good thing. He and Connie are working hard to find the new rhythm for their life; the new routine; the new pattern to living.  It won’t ever be exactly the same as before the stroke but it can still be good, rewarding, fulfilling.
This new normal is beginning to take shape. There is a bit less professional therapy but more independent work. Less physical therapy, more time at the gym and taking walks. Thank God the weather has cooperated at least a bit. Less speech therapy and more talking to friends in person and on the phone. Less recreational therapy, more board games etc. Less
Occupational therapy and more day to day problem solving and just living life.
No one really knows exactly what this new normal will look like for Harry and Connie but it’s starting to take shape slowly. I for one am confident that they will find new ways to live, love and serve. And I thank God for that.
So don’t hesitate to send a text, make a call or send a note to them by mail or on this site. They love their family and friends and are wanting to reconnect. But one of the elements of their new normal, new routine, is that they have limits and are learning to recognize and honor those limits. So don’t be offended if they don’t respond right away or if they are too tired to talk for long. And be patient. Harry has come a long way but there is a ways to go.
And please continue to pray that they find their way in this new world of theirs with the Spirit leading the way.
