On October 31st, 2023 I learned that I had cancer.  It was later diagnosed as Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma.

The tumor is located on the tail of my pancreas with some metastasis on my stomach lining.

I have been treated with Chemotherapy since the diagnosis, having it three days in a row about every three weeks and will continue with this through May/June.  I will then take a two month chemo break. I am very fortunate as I tolerate the Chemo with no side effects other than fatigue, which increases with each round.

A lot of folks have asked what Chemo I'm on.  I get CARBOplatin and Etoposide on day one, followed by two days of just the Etoposide for each round.

The chemo is keeping the cancer stable, with no known growth occurring.

In order to quality for clinical trails, there needs to be growth in the cancer, which I am happy about not having.  So it is a waiting game.

Due to the location of the tumor, my pancreas is not producing the needed enzyme to properly digest protein.  It has caused me excessive weight loss (the main reason I went into the doctor originally) and I hover around 140 lbs.  Trying to put on more weight has been difficult, but I am no longer losing weight with the help of medication and eating whenever I can.

My care team is excellent, both at the U of M as well as Mayo. They are working together to keep on top of my health as well as come up with options. I definitely feel like I am getting the best care anywhere in the world.

I remain in great spirits and continue to be very positive about an outcome that extends my life.  I also have incredible support from Kristin, my family, extended family and friends. Thank you!
