Newest Update

Journal entry by Russell and Vicky schantz

This girl finally made counts today!   We get to start delayed intensification on Monday.   It starts with chemo Monday thru Friday next week.   On paper this round looks gross but we will push through.

It was really hard to not make counts this last week.  We know this next round is tough but after we get through it will not be as demanding.   Hannah will then gain some strength and normalcy.    We had wanted to finish it with graduation but that won’t happen because of the delay.

Lately we have been so excited as Hannah’s hair has been growing back so nice and getting really thick.   Well Chemo is cruel and she has lost her hair once again.   I believe it’s harder the second time.  All I can say is this girl is stronger than me.

True confession I am not always strong.   I can put on a good face but this week was hard.    The delay, then the loss of almost all her hair again hurts.  When Hannah asked for the little bit left to be shaved, it crushed me.   My safe place is my shower.   It’s where I can cry and be angry and let go of my feelings.  Let’s just say my shower was long that night.

I am going to apologize now if I don’t get to an update as we move forward.   I am a little panicked over the next few weeks.   I need to help move Kodah home from college.  He is graduating and will be moving home until he works a bit and finds a place to rent.    He was hired at DGC and I’m thankful to have him close again.    Then between work, and chemo I need to figure out how to clean my house and get things ready for graduation!   I think the boys are going to hide from me.  I keep telling myself that it’s okay if I don’t accomplish everything as it’s more
Important to just celebrate and be together.
