Journal

A year ago on Sept 1, 2020 I spent the day in the OR having open heart surgery. I was taken there at 8 am and to the CCU at 9:00 pm after recovery. Ted says he had felt apprehensive all day.

On Feb 1st we had a telephone visit with my surgeon. While most days post-op are somewhat fuzzy, I  remembered he told me the day after surgery that I had a strong heart and I wondered why he made that statement. He said because my heart recovered very easily, or started up quickly, after repairs . He went on to say that because I had a strong heart (ejection fraction 55% which is normal) "was the reason we offered you surgery".

He didn't remember if I was in the OR 8 hours or 10 but said my heart was stopped for 4 hours.  Most likely that is when he was working inside my heart and when I was on the heart lung machine. I recently sent a thank you note to Dr. Cohen for devoting his life to saving mine on this date a year ago.

At an app't with my pacemaker doctor in July he reiterated that I had had a really big surgery  and most people don't do well saying  "it is nice to see someone doing well for a change". I told him a lot of people had been praying for me. He also gave credit to the fact that I never smoked or drank.

And so I thank everyone for "one anothering" with us by your prayers, cards, meals, etc. last fall. And I thank the Lord for the bonus days/year he has given me so far and trust him for as many more as he allows. Psalms 73:26--My body and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and He is all I will ever need. New Life Version
