Aren’t I the cutest?? Yeah! I know! All the nurses and doctors think so, too!
Today, an ultrasound was done on the lump that popped up on my back. They found fluid so they decided to drain the puss and send it to be tested for bacteria. So far, there have been no positive signs of bacteria, so that’s a great thing!
We also got the results from the head ultrasound. The fluid spaces in my brain have increased from 54% - 59%. It isn’t drastic enough to take action, but the doctors will have to keep monitoring it closely. They also found a “bright spot” in the area where my brain helps me with my motor skills. Because of this, the doctors said they have no idea how I will develop, so I will definitely be in therapy for at least a year as they track my development. But like I’ve said before, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!!
My neurosurgeon said they will have to do another ventricular tap sometime soon (not sure exactly when). They will do this to see if the fluid has changed at all and to see how well the antibiotics are fighting the bacteria.
I’ve had some really long rough days, but with each day, I get stronger and stronger. Thank you all for the prayers!
Oh, see those things on my hand? The occupational therapist said I tuck my fingers too tight in my hand, so I have to wear splints so that I can practice keeping my thumb out! At least they are cute and purple and pink!
Specific prayer requests:
- that the puss from Scarlett’s back will be negative for bacteria (it can take several days for the bacteria to show up even though it’s likely that it won’t since it was already negative)
-that the fluid in Scarlett’s brain would start to drain more on its own and that the size of the ventricles would lessen instead of increase
- that Scarlett would have all of her motor skills
- that all of the bacteria would be killed completely with the antibiotics (soon!)
- that mom and dad would continue to have faith and stay strong during these hard times
