Journal entry by Pamela Higgins —
Our Celebration of my dear husband’s life was wonderful!! There is no way that I can thank all the people who came from near and far, friends and family, in person and remotely and even those who wanted to come but didn’t or couldn’t make it. It was amazing and wonderful. Friends from Jefferson County Schools provided an amazing array of goodies, beverages and flowers! Many people were from Alabama: as close as next door and as far away as Huntsville and Jasper. Colleagues from BSC and Jefferson County were here. Family came from Florida, New York, and Charlotte. The Thanksgiving crowd turned up from Alabama, Florida, and Savannah and New York. My children’s contemporaries flew and drove from Atlanta, Charlotte and New York. One of Guy’s roommates flew in from Chicago. My sister in California, my cousin, Marta, Charlie and Cindy in Atlanta and Joyce and Sandra in Charlotte joined us remotely. Speeches were made through tears and laughter. My children and I, Guy’s sister, his roommates from graduate school - John in person and Charlie remotely, and Guy’s colleague, Natalie Davis spoke to the group. I am sure that Guy would have wondered what all the fuss was about, but…It was about him!! I am deeply grateful for everything and everyone. It is hard to really express my thanks!! Everyone commented that it was just “perfect”. Later that evening we had dinner for the family and all the out of town people who could stay.
MANY MANY THANKS!!
