I can’t help but think that Gustavo had a hand in what just happened.
In fact, I know he did. His journey with cancer brought so many blessings to our lives.
One of those blessings came in the form of a wonderful, prayerful, faithful lady. She learned about Gustavo in her Sunday School class when a friend & neighbor shared what was happening. After that, she ALWAYS commented on my Caringbridge posts. I looked forward to reading what this stranger would write. I knew I could count on her prayers.
Well, this gentle soul came through for 23 year old Will this morning.
I had asked if anyone knew of a rental apartment/in-law suite for rent. This same neighbor friend alerted me that her church
friend did, in fact, have a newly renovated apartment for rent. I texted and the rest fell into place. She chose Will over two other applicants this morning. Not even close to the 48 hours she had requested in order to make her decision.
When I texted a thank you to her this morning her reply was short and simple but profound.
The Lord provides.
Think about that and let it sink in. It’s true. Even if you don’t see it now, it’s happening.
I know that Gus’ presence in my life was preparing me for THIS part of my life. It was preparing the friendship with Nancy A. so that another young man who has not known love and compassion until age 23 is experiencing this now.
In this broken world God is working all around us. Look for it. When Gus was so sick I told myself each morning, and at each doctor’s appointment- Look for the blessings. They were there- Every Day. Big and small.
Today, I thank God for people in my life like you who pray, give and serve. Thank you for growing my faith in God and in community. I thank God for Gustavo whose presence changed my life and whose story continues to bless others in many different ways. This time, the blessing came in the form of a person willing to lend a helping hand and provide a comfortable home for a young man who has never had that. God is great, my friends
