Greg’s Story

Site created on August 11, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. On August 10, Greg suffered a brain hemorrhage while vacationing with family and friends in Maui.

Fortunately, we were on a hotel beach, and there were plenty of support staff around (including 2 vacationing nurses) to help us get Greg to the hospital quickly. Greg underwent 2 brain surgeries, and stayed in the hospital for about 2 1/2 weeks before being cleared for travel.

Greg’s now back home in Portland to continue his rest and recovery. He loves visitors — just text Karen to set up a time. Visits are limited to outdoors right now due to Delta.  Also, there’s a Meal Train set up for anyone who’d like to contribute meals: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/84kny1

Newest Update

Journal entry by Monica Metz

Quick neuro-ophthalmology update... Based on a review of Greg’s hospital records, the doctor says his eyes are in better alignment, and that the pupils are responding well. He still has double-vision, though, so we'll keep monitoring that on an ongoing basis. Follow up appointment will be in March.

In the meantime, Greg's feeling stronger every day. Hopefully we can get that vision cleared up soon!
