Greg’s Story

Site created on June 28, 2022

We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We are NOT asking for donations.

What Happened:

Greg was working on the house and fell one floor down the elevator shaft. He does not remember how it happened, but luckily there were other people on site who called for help. Greg hit his head, broke ten ribs, broke his scapula, as well as shattered one vertebra and fractured another–these are the most severe of his injuries.

Greg received emergency surgery on his spine overnight on Tuesday 6/28/2022 and is currently receiving excellent care at UPMC Mercy's Trauma ICU. He is not accepting visitors right now.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Susan Kaminski

A quick update.    Since many have asked, I wanted to let you know that Greg is doing well at home! He's certainly eating much better than in the hospital (thank you!) and starting to get back to doing what he loves doing...tapping on his computer, hanging on the front porch, yakking with friends, working in the kitchen...

He's gotten the hang of his walker in the house (as well as mastering the use of walls and furniture to hold onto) and even ventured as far as Safran's (a few blocks away, accompanied) to do some grocery shopping. That trip wore him out, and probably was a bit over the top...but it felt good for him. I'm (sort of) mastering the IV, but look forward to that being over at the end of the month!

Thank you for the porch visits, food, flowers, calls, advice, etc. etc. Most importantly, thank you for your friendship. We very much feel your love.
