Gloria’s Story

Site created on July 5, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  (There is no need to donate at this time.)

Our Mom has faithfully and valiantly battled ovarian cancer for the last six years. During this time she has gone through many rounds of chemo and a number of other treatments.  As of last fall when her cancer markers were increasing, chemo was no longer a viable option. Over the last six months she has continued to battle, hoping that a new trial drug would make a difference.  Unfortunately, it has become clear that it has not helped. She has dealt with severe pleural effusion of her lungs.   She had a pleurodesis on one lung and then had to have a catheter drain on the other. In the last few months she has continued to decline in her energy, her strength, and her weight. She also battles with extreme fatigue. In this past month we have noticed an even more significant decline in these areas. In addition, she has fallen and has had issues with her balance. On Monday she went into get an MRI. The doctor revealed that the cancer had spread to the brain. Mom and Dad met with the doctor this afternoon and found out that she has about 7 lesions on her brain. With the options presented and with how tired she is of being 'sick and tired' they have chosen to go the route of hospice at home. The doctor says that she probably has “weeks rather than months” left.

Due to this shocking news, we will be wanting as much family time with her as possible. We are so thankful for the love that you have for our Mom and we know how much she appreciates the connections she has with each of you. We understand that she is family to so many of you. We appreciate and know that some will want to visit her and Dad, given the short time the doctors are predicting. Keri (602-696-9361 text or FB messenger) will be the point person for arranging such visits.  We want to be wise in considering how many visits she can handle, and to make sure that the visits are spread out well. Please feel free to leave comments, stories, encouragement, photos or memories here and we will make sure that she gets them!

We will do our best to update this site on a regular basis so that this can be a source of information for you. We also want to be thoughtful in the communication process while protecting our parents during this difficult part of their journey together.

This is a challenging time for us and we appreciate your prayers, love and support!

Love,
The Baird Girls - Staci, Kristi & Keri
