Giovanni’s Story

Site created on November 10, 2018

Giovanni is a 4 1/2 (now 5 3/4!!!) year old little boy who loves life, loves his family, loves everything to do with animals and dinosaurs, he loves love - to give and receive - and he loves to learn. To add to the list of who Giovanni is, there is one more thing I need to add: he’s a little boy who is going to kick cancers ass and continue to make this world a better place! He was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma the last weekend of July 2018. He’s already made such an impression in the lives of those who know him, but he has so much in store in the future! #TeamGio #GioStrong 💪🏼💙

Newest Update

Journal entry by Lauren Hurley

So Giovanni had his bone marrow biopsy last week, we got the results today and there is NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE!!!! So between that and his MIBG being clear we are so happy and thrilled!

We also found out today that his port is going to be coming out this Thursday! It’s a 30 minute procedure, should be very quick and easy! Then we get to set up for him to ring the bell!!

He is no longer immunocompromised, so he is off many of his meds and feels and looks amazing!

Gio starts the vaccine shots in about 2 weeks at Sloan in NYC.

He has been having a great few weeks, he went to the Museum of Natural History and saw the “real life dinosaurs!” He was running around telling Nanny and Aunt Vicky to follow him and not to talk and he was teaching them all about the dinosaurs and what was what. He had a “vacation” in the city since he stayed overnight, had an awesome room with this cool tent and star lamp, and had so much fun! We have been to some library programs and other fun things, and trying to set up lots for the next few months. He wants a “GiLa Day” and he wants to take Lala to the Aquarium and Lala can take him out to lunch!

Shannon had a meeting with the school and got Gio a new teacher who is phenomenal! He has done and learned more in these last few weeks than he has in the first few months. His writing, knowing and recognizing letters/sounds/site words, numbers and adding, etc are beyond on track for a Kindergartener!

Thank you all for your love, support, messages, and more throughout this last year and a half. We cannot thank you enough!

Will keep everyone posted!
