Gina’s Story

Site created on June 4, 2023

Gina has been diagnosed with myelofibrosis, an uncommon type of bone marrow cancer that disrupts the body’s normal production of blood cells. She is scheduled for a stem cell transplant on September 6th at Stanford Hospital, as her brother Ben was identified as a perfect match. The process leading up to her procedure begins next week on August 18th. This Caring Bridge is a way to help Gina’s friends and family follow her journey to recovery and help support her through it.
This site will be the best place for updates and information - journal entries will be posted here and you are invited to leave encouraging comments! Please consider downloading the Caring Bridge App and following this site for regular updates, and/or bookmark the link to visit as often as you’d like from your desktop. A Meal Train page is in the works as well, which is linked to this site under “Ways to Help”. Food-borne infections need to be avoided at all costs, so strict guidelines will be provided to those who would like to help the family in this way.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Gina Saddik

As I am approaching seven months since my transplant, I thought everyone would like to know my status. Sam and I met with my doctor this past Monday and had a good visit. My fibrosis(scaring) has improved greatly. I continue to be 100% donor, meaning my body is not fighting Ben’s stem cells.  The most noticeable thing about me is my golf game has improved greatly.

I’m starting to go out more and more but still limited in what I can eat , no sushi, and where I go, still have to work from home.  I know this will get better with time though.

As always, I’m staying positive in my outcome and looking forward to improving each day.

Love to all
