Journal

Since starting our facebook page, "Kensie's Krew," we have not been as good as we intended about updating this page as well. A lot has happened over the last month & while it would be difficult to put all of it here, we thought we would share a few highlights for those that may not be following the facebook page.

First, Kensie is finished with Phase 1 of treatment & has started Phase 2. She did very well during phase 1, having only 1 fever, which required a visit to the Emergency Department, but no admissions & no need for blood transfusions. Her body recovered rapidly from each week of chemo treatment & she has done better than expected!

Sadly, we recently found out that Kensie has a rare, but bad genetic marker on her cancer cells. This marker indicates that her leukemia will be harder to treat, harder to get into remission, very likely to relapse, & extremely difficult to cure. Quite simply, the odds are against us that things will go well. If they don't go well, there isn't much that can be done to successfully or effectively stop the negative progression.

Nevertheless, she is in remission & had an amazing lab result that she really "shouldn't" have been able to have based on her bad genetic marker. This is great news, & we believe it is evidence that God is intervening & healing her body in areas where medicine is not yet able to heal. For more, very DETAILED information about that, check out our facebook post here if you haven't read it already:  https://www.facebook.com/kensieskrew/posts/2208293752719562?__tn__=K-R

All that said, the last couple weeks have been difficult for us for 2 reasons. First, we are still somewhat fearful, although also cautiously optimistic, about finding out about her bad genetic marker. While it is wonderful for the physician to be puzzled that she could have such wonderful lab results, it is also a bit scary to be in uncharted territory when dealing with our child's cancer diagnosis & care, even if all signs are positive. Second, she has had several fever spikes & ED visits in the last 2 weeks, followed by our current hospital admission for observation. While it appears she simply has a few viruses, which her body has to work harder to kick.

With all this said, we are so thankful to have people from across the country & world praying for our sweet girl & family! Not to mention the people that have contributed in other ways, through donating money, gift cards, or time to support us with barn chores or chlidcare or bringing meals! When we were first diagnosed, the medical staff asked if we had people to support us. We said yes, but we had NO IDEA how much people would reach out & support us. I know that I have said it so many times, but I cannot convey the depth of our gratefulness to each of you. THANK YOU!

Love,
Josh, Katy, & kids
