Sophia & Giatti’s Story

Site created on September 17, 2019

Welcome to Gia and Sophia’s CaringBridge website. A bit of history, Gia was diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) after her 16 month appointment where they heard a heart murmur. At the time, I was 20 weeks pregnant with Sophia. The odds increase for a sibling to experience heart defects. This caused us to get a level 2 ultrasound in the Cities and discovered Sophia had a Ventricle Septal Defect (VSD). We have followed both conditions since through periodic echos and close tracking of their weight, heights and general health. Thankfully both girls have thrived but unfortunately their hearts have not repaired themselves. This past summer, both of their cases were presented to the pediatric cardiac team at Children’s Minnesota and the team recommended surgical intervention for both girls. Sophia is scheduled for open heart surgery to repair both the VSD and the newly discovered ASD on October 11 with Dr. MacIver. Gia is scheduled for a catheter surgery with Dr. Rios on November 11. We are using this page to keep family and friends updated on the upcoming heart surgeries. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for everything!
