Gerry’s Story

Site created on September 29, 2021

Thanks for visiting Gerry's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

A little background on how we got to where we are in early October: Gerry had been having pain in her back and abdomen for a very long time and found out in July that she had a mass in her abdomen. They surgically removed a tumor the size of a volleyball in August. The surgery appears to have gone very well, and Gerry is currently home recovering. She had a small setback in healing when the incision became infected, but that is better and her recovery is back on track. As far as the prognosis goes, unfortunately, the tumor turned out to be cancerous. Numerous tests were run on it locally, and then it was sent to Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center for further testing, however, they have been unable to determine where the cancer originated. Next steps haven't been determined, but we are in the process of getting a second opinion and expect a plan, that will likely include chemotherapy and radiation, to be in place by mid-October. Further updates can be found in the journal section of this site.

If you are interested in helping with transportation or other things that Gerry might need, please go to the Planner section of the site to sign up. Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Beth Myers

A quick update: Paula’s surgery was a success. It went longer than we thought and then she was in recovery for a few hours before we got to see her, but all went well! Gynifer is with her and I luckily got to spend a bit of time with Paula  before I had to scoot out for my dinner plans. She should be released to go home tomorrow. I’ll keep you updated.
